Why don't we just teach how to use the magic?
A note on the Religious aspects of the Key
Throughout the Key there are Biblical passages and prayers that are to be recited. For example many of these come from the
Book of Psalms, so obviously the Book is closely tied to the Hebrew religion. Some individuals believe that only one who follows
the Biblical G-d of the Hebrews can be worthy of the Keys magic and potential. But others believe that only the magical knowledge
contained in the Book is important, which can then be combined with religious aspects of any religion to produce effective magic.
Individuals such as Aleister Crowley held the opinion that each of us is a combination of 'good AND evil', and therefore the absolute character
of an individual does not necessarily matter, only one's understanding of the Book is required to use the magic effectively.
However others, such as a long list of Jewish Rabbi's over the centuries, believed one must strive to become "like G-d" in order to
effectively use the magic of the Key. Opinions on this subject have been wide ranging, some believe the magic can be used
effectively with little or no attention given to the religious aspects, while others believe at least some observation of the religious
connections is necessary.
The book itself states that 'only one who is worthy of the Knowledge will truly understand the information in the
Book'. On a side note, it took some of us decades of studying this book before we could see plainly what had been there
from the beginning.
More to the point, we do not judge who might, or might not be, 'Worthy'. By teaching a Course on how to use the book, rather than a
specific Course on using just the magic, we leave the religious and/or moral decisions to the individual. These issues are discussed
further in their place during the Course.

The Key, as it is called, is one of the oldest occult manuscripts
in existence. It contains what is known as Jewish Mysticism, commonly referred to as Kabbalist Magic.
Many copies of the book can still be found in several European museums and in varying languages. The Book can be dated back to about
the 14th century but many believe it originated much earlier. The book itself claims to have been handed down from G-d, to King Solomon,
around 900 b.c. Almost every other book related to Western Mysticism can be traced in some way back to the Key, either in style
or content, and the book is directly connected to the foundations of both modern Wicca and Witchcraft as well
as such infamous occult groups as The Golden Dawn and it's many off-shoots.
For many reasons, some which we cannot mention here. Our most important answer would be because there is more to the book than
just learning to use the magic. Another answer would be that we believe it is very important to present the material in its simplest
and purest form. To the best of our knowledge no group or individual has yet done that.
As you progress through the Course and get a better understanding of the book, you will learn a method for practicing the magic as well
as gaining an understanding of the history, philosophy and experimentation involved with developing the magic's potential.
The Key of Solomon is based on the religious and magical beliefs of the Hebrews. Part of the reason we teach an understanding of the
Book, and not specifically how to use the magic, is because by doing things this way we are not directing the individual to follow or
honor a religious doctrine.
We teach how the Book may be understood and viewed, and the individual is then free to decide whether or not to use the magic, and
just how little or how much of the religious aspects will be observed.
